Many people make silly mistakes in their lives. The solution is not to goad them into not committing mistakes. That will not work. Then, how do we find a solution?
Let us unpack the issue. Making silly mistakes is a human condition. It has a certain mechanism. All of us have limited energy for focusing. Unless it has been gainfully utilised in a paradigmatic way, mistakes do happen. Silly and costly mistakes also happen. The remedy used by industry is “due diligence”. They create multiple levels of safety against such mistakes.
We can do this in other areas of our lives as well. The arrogation that we are infallible should end. We can look at our work by playing devil’s advocate. We can do it in a checklist format. We can look at our work from a second-person perspective and a third-person perspective. It makes our work more foolproof.
